Scoring Conference

Students' performance on the PASA is evaluated by PA certified teachers, therapists, and administrators who view video recordings of the test at Scoring Conferences held each spring and summer. Scorers, after receiving training, work in pairs and use the scoring rubric to assign a score of 5 to 0 for each item on the assessment.

Scoring Conferences are held at PaTTAN 6340 Flank Drive Harrisburg, PA 17112

Most Scoring Conferences are scheduled for weekends beginning on Friday evenings and continuing until late afternoon on Sundays.

Science assessments are scored during a week long conference during June.

PA certified school professionals submit applications to be scorers. When selecting from the qualified applicants, consideration is given to creating a balance of:

  • Experienced and new applicants;
  • Licensed professionals who work with students with severe disabilities and those who work with other populations of students;
  • Teachers who have administered the PASA and those who have not;
  • Commuters and scorers needing local accommodations; and
  • General and specialized applicants (ASL, bilingual).

Scorers are paid an honorarium for their time. Accommodations (two scorers to a room) and mileage reimbursements are provided for accepted scorers living more than 50 miles from the training site, and mileage reimbursement is provided for commuters.
