  Frequently Asked Questions

Videotaping
Q: Do we need signed permission to videotape a student?

A: No, however, the manner in which the student's performance on the PASA is recorded must be decided by the IEP team. In some cases, religious beliefs may require using only narrative notes.

Q: What do you do if a student is adamantly opposed to being videotaped?

A: Detailed narrative notes may be used to record the student's performance.

Q: What happens to the videotape after it is submitted?

A: The tapes (and narrative notes) are returned to the service provider. The tapes and narrative notes should be maintained as part of the student's confidential educational record.

Q: Do parents receive a copy of the videotape with the scores?

A: No, but the service provider may offer to view the video or narrative notes with the parents present after the record of the student's performance has been returned. Service providers/school districts are not permitted to provide a copy of the video or narrative notes for parents after scoring has been completed as the PASA is a "secure" test.
