Replacement Skills for Students who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing - 2010:

Some test items will need to be replaced for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Examples of replaced skills include "selects picture with beginning sound named" and "selects picture of a word that rhymes with another word." These skills have to be replaced, because even with accommodations, performance on these test items cannot be used as valid indicators of their reading skills. Skills designated with a "D/HOH" in the top right hand corner of the standard Test Booklet should be replaced with skills that are posted below.

To ensure that the performance of the students who are deaf/hard-of hearing are scored accurately, please do the following:

  1. State on camera that the student will be assessed with replacement skills for students who are deaf/hard-of-hearing.
  2. Indicate on the media bag label that the adapted test items from the PASA website were used.
  3. Indicate on the Supporting Documentation Form that the replacement skills for students who are deaf/hard-of-hearing are being used.
